Fight Aging With an Endoscopic Brow Lift

May 24th, 2009

As the years pass, the telltale signs of your true age can creep in and attempt to steal youthful traits like smooth skin and a flawless complexion. Forehead wrinkling, frown lines between the eyes, brow furrows, or sagging eyebrow skin can be a shear indication that your 30s, 40s, or 50s have arrived. Whether they are caused by genetics, aging, stress, or sun exposure, these signs of aging can be corrected with help from an experienced plastic surgeon. If you want to minimize the annoying problems areas for a more youthful appearance, brow lift surgery might be the right cosmetic surgery choice for you.

How It’s Done

Performed as an outpatient procedure, the brow lift procedure can be completed in just a few hours.  Your plastic surgeon will make small incisions hidden above the hairline, and then skillfully remove excess muscles responsible for furrowing between the brows and forehead using an endoscope.  An endoscope allows the surgeon to see what he is doing through very small incisions.

The eyebrows are slightly raised in the process and the forehead area is smoothed. The incision site is closed with sutures, and your surgeon will go over the healing process with you to make sure you know what to expect. Generally, activity is limited for about a week after surgery, and strenuous activity is restricted for two weeks. The result is a refreshed facial appearance and a more youthful forehead and upper eye area.

You May Be a Good Brow Lift Candidate If…

  • You have a tired or angry look when your face is relaxed
  • Your eyelids have begun to droop
  • You notice lines and furrows in the forehead area
  • Your forehead shows signs of aging

For Dramatic Results

To complement the results of your brow lift, consider additional procedures such as a facelift, eyelid lift, or laser skin resurfacing. There are also non-surgical medspa procedures such as Botox® Cosmetic, Juvederm™, or Restylane® available to help you achieve just the right look.

Benefits and Risks of Plastic Surgery

May 10th, 2009

If you are considering plastic surgery as a way to enhance your appearance, it is important to research the benefits and risks of your desired procedure thoroughly. Here, we briefly describe some of the more generalized aspects of surgery to help give you an idea of what to expect. For specific details on your procedure of choice, the most reliable way to get trustworthy information is to schedule a consultation with a skilled San Francisco plastic surgeon.

Basic Benefits

There are so many benefits to having plastic surgery — when it is performed by a highly skilled surgeon, that is. Plastic surgery can restore balance, improve proportions, and create symmetry. Body contouring procedures such as liposuction and tummy tuck can help you get a more youthful contour. Enhancing your facial appearance through a facelift or eyelid lift can revitalize your look and give you a confidence boost. Med Spa procedures like laser resurfacing or Restylane® can help combat aging and facial sun damage.

In general, the physical results of plastic surgery can have a very positive effect on your self-image, which can translate into benefits like increased energy, improved social skills, and more smiling! Plastic surgery is also an amazing tool that can be used to help patients with physical abnormalities. In some cases, plastic surgery can have health benefits, too — for instance when breast reduction is performed to minimize back pain.

Risks To Consider

The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery released this statistic after an extensive survey of more than 400,000 accredited facilities:

Less than half of 1 percent of plastic surgery patients experienced serious complications.

Because every person’s body is different, their plastic surgery needs can vary greatly, too. If you choose a plastic surgeon who is in tune with your body goals, is highly experienced, and delivers a truly personalized procedure, you are improving the chances of getting the results you desire and minimizing your risks. Remember to choose a board-certified surgeon and make sure the facility is fully accredited.

As with any type of surgery, there are risks you should be aware of. Risks of plastic surgery include necrosis (skin death), infection, hematoma, asymmetry, delayed healing, numbness/tingling, dimpling/puckering of the skin, blood clots, anesthesia complications, seroma (fluid collection), and nerve damage. Your surgeon will discuss all of the potential risks with you during your visit and let you know what you can do to improve your surgical outcome. If you have certain conditions that may increase your risk (such as a history of cancer, heart problems, or excess weight), your surgeon may recommend you choose another cosmetic option.
