When’s the Best Time for Body Contouring?

November 13th, 2011

If you are considering reshaping your figure with the help of a skilled cosmetic surgeon, timing is an important factor and can have a direct impact on your results and satisfaction.

Certain body contouring procedures are recommended only at specific stages of life. For instance,

  • The results of a tummy tuck or breast lift are best maintained by women who do not plan to have children after the surgery.
  • Liposuction to remove fat in targeted areas is only suggested after diet and exercise efforts have failed, only on patients with a healthy overall weight.
  • Breast enlargement should only be performed on women over age 18 who have a thorough understanding of how a new breast size will impact their lives.
  • The Mommy Makeover is recommended for women who are done having children.

Healthy Expectations

Your state-of-mind before and after a body contouring procedure is also a factor in the long-term success of your efforts. Dr. Robert Aycock requires that all his patients have realistic expectations of what surgery can and cannot do. Focusing on a healthy lifestyle after surgery is the best way to maintain your  results and positive body image.

As you consider the plethora of body contouring options available to you, advice from our experienced Bay Area plastic surgeon can help you choose the ideal procedures — and decide if the time is right for you to move forward.

Full or Mini Tummy Tuck?

March 27th, 2011

If you are searching for a way to reshape your abdomen area, a tummy tuck from skilled surgeon Dr. Robert Aycock can provide you with a more toned, tightened appearance. A tummy tuck, also called an abdominoplasty, is a popular cosmetic surgery for people who have struggled with losing the “stomach pouch,” men who want more definition in this area, and women who have stretched abdominal muscles as a result of pregnancy. Tummy tuck is also a fine solution for those with excess skin due to aging or weight loss. Liposuction may be performed along with a tummy tuck to remove the top layers of fat and reveal the muscular structure underneath.

Patients who are interested in a tummy tuck should fall within a healthy weight range; Abdominoplasty is a reshaping procedure and should not be used as a weight loss tool. When you visit Dr. Robert Aycock to discuss your abdomen enhancement choices, he will present the benefits of both the full tummy tuck and the mini tummy tuck to help you choose one that suits you best.

Mini Tummy Tuck

If your tummy area is somewhat toned and you require only a small amount of adjustment, a mini abdominoplasty is a great way to go. This surgery is less invasive than a full tummy tuck and requires a shorter surgical time as well as a shorter recovery period. During a mini tummy tuck, Dr. Aycock makes a small incision in the lower abdomen and tightens the stomach muscles while excess skin is gently removed. As a general guideline, mini tucks are usually recommended for patients who have excess fat or skin below the belly button.

Full Tummy Tuck

A full tummy tuck is a smart choice for men and women with excess fat and/or skin in the upper and lower abdomen. It is a more invasive procedure than the mini tummy tuck and requires a longer healing time, but the results are more dramatic. The incision extends between the two hipbones and also around the belly button, although Dr. Aycock may alter it based on the amount of correction needed. Similar to the mini version, the muscles are tightened and sagging skin is excised.

Mommy Makeover 101

August 15th, 2010

New mothers are often surprised at the way their bodies change after
pregnancy and delivery. Areas that were once tightened and toned become
relaxed and saggy.  Regular exercise and diet attempts seem to make little
difference. At Bay Area’s Premier Aesthetic Surgery & Laser Center, Dr. Robert Aycock offers solutions for improvement.  The “Mommy Makeover” is designed to help moms enhance their figure and build their
self-confidence.

Elements of the Mommy Makeover

This phrase “Mommy Makeover” is actually a combination of cosmetic surgeries that are sometimes performed simultaneously for dramatic results. A breast
augmentation (breast implants) and/or a breast lift in addition to a
tummy tuck help moms reclaim their body after having babies. Here are
a few details about these procedures.

Breast Augmentation
For women who experience loss of volume after childbirth, a breast
augmentation is a great way to increase breast size and create a more
toned contour. Patients can choose from a variety of sizes and textures
for a truly personalized, natural-looking result.

Breast Lift (Mastopexy)
Pregnancy, childbirth and nursing take their toll on the breasts and
create sagging that can lead to feelings of self-doubt and longing for a
more youthful “once was” breast appearance. During the breast lift
procedure, the surgeon repositions the nipples and removes excess tissue
for a more youthful, lifted contour.

Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)
Pregnancy is notorious for stretching the abdomen skin and creating a
sagging tummy “pooch” that often makes wearing a swimsuit an unpleasant
experience. The tummy tuck is a popular procedure that removes excess
skin and fat from the abdominal area and tightens the abdominal muscles.

Mommy Makeover Results

Results of your procedure will depend on a number of factors, including
the condition of your skin and the techniques used. Choosing a highly skilled cosmetic surgeon can also make a big difference in your final appearance. By following a healthy diet and integrating physical fitness into your day, you can maintain your results, build muscle, and achieve the goals you desire. Tone and Firm With a Tummy Tuck

April 4th, 2009

For many of people, diet and exercise alone will not be enough to help them achieve their ideal body size and shape. Body contouring is a safe and effective way to enhance your figure and create a look you can be proud to show off. The tummy tuck procedure is a popular plastic surgery option that lets you target one of the biggest problem areas for men and women — the stomach “pooch.”

The tummy tuck surgery has been performed on millions of patients worldwide. The results can be amazing, especially when you choose a highly skilled plastic surgeon who can help you reach your ideal proportions. For men, the tummy tuck can dramatically reduce the “spare tire” appearance, creating a more chiseled, toned stomach. For women, the removal of excess fat in the tummy area can not only knock off a couple of pant sizes, it can improve the chest-to-waist ratio and enhance overall proportions. This procedure is also great for patients who have lost weight and want to remove loose skin for a more youthful, solid stomach appearance. A mini-tummy tuck is available for patients who need less correction than the full tummy tuck offers.

During the tummy tuck (or abdominoplasty), the surgeon removes excess skin and tightens the stomach muscles. Liposuction may be used to remove stubborn fat tissue. Incisions are hidden in the pubic area and belly button for a smooth, flawless tummy appearance. Read more about what happens during surgery and what to expect post-operatively.

Dr. Aycock was voted Best Plastic Surgeon in Marin County for 2008 and 2009! To see what a difference this body contouring procedure can make, you can also check out a few before and after photos.
