Weight Loss and the Stages of a Body Lift

July 8th, 2011

If you have lost a significant amount of weight, a lower body lift is an effective cosmetic procedure for enhancing and slimming the areas affected by resulting sagging skin, such as the thighs, buttocks, and abdomen. Loose skin is removed for a more toned appearance, residual fat is excised, and weak muscles are tightened. After a body lift, patients enjoy a newfound confidence and an improved appearance.

Body Lift Personalization

Since every body lift patient has unique needs, Dr. Robert Aycock will tailor your procedure based on the affected areas and degree of correction required for optimal improvement. Generally, the stages of a body lift are performed based on each patient’s specific areas of concern.

A body lift is often combined with inner thigh lift, arm lift, breast lift, breast augmentation in women, or gynecomastia correction in men. Liposuction to remove localized fat may also be performed in conjunction with each stage to provide optimal recontouring results.

The Three Stages

The body lift procedure can take anywhere from a few hours to several hours, depending on the extent of the issues. In the first two stages, the buttock, thigh, back, and hip areas are targeted. Sagging skin resulting from weight loss and aging is excised, and liposuction is applied to remove stubborn fat cells. During the third and final stage, excess skin and fat is removed from the abdominal area and the core muscles are tightened in a method similar to a tummy tuck.

Are You a Candidate?

If you have shed significant weight through diet and exercise, gastric bypass surgery, gastric banding, or other method, a body lift can help you achieve a normal, healthy-looking body contour through the removal of excess skin and residual fat deposits. The entire trunk area is reduced, firmed, and smoothed for results that help you finalize your appearance after weight loss.

Is There an Age Limit on Your Bikini Body?

June 5th, 2011

At what age should a woman stop wearing a bikini?

A May 2011 Today Show story highlighted a recent poll of 2000 women who put the bikini’s “expiration date” at age 47. Miniskirts were pinned at 35, and stilettos at 35. Editor-in-chief of Allure Magazine Linda Wells disagreed with the findings, saying that “the message should not be that you can’t wear these things after a certain age, the message is to take a look at yourself and wear them with confidence if you feel good about it.”

A panel of health and beauty experts agreed that it’s not about age, it’s about appropriateness and that “if it’s a matter of gravity, there are things that can help you.”

Matching What’s Outside to Inner Beauty

Beauty is more than skin deep, and attractiveness is not defined by age. Most men will tell you that confidence is an attractive trait, even more so than physical features. If you are missing that key confidence due to dissatisfaction with your physical appearance, cosmetic surgery that is performed with great skill and personalization can help you accentuate your natural beauty. An experienced, successful cosmetic surgeon is able to play upon the strength of your positive features and downplay or restore your weaker ones for a beautiful reinvention.

Cosmetic Surgery for a Bikini-Ready Body

Dr. Robert Aycock is one such San Francisco cosmetic surgeon who has helped many women enhance their figures with safe, state-of-the-art procedures. Liposuction can minimize fat deposits in places like the thighs, love handles, and stomach, and is extremely useful when diet and fitness efforts fail. A tummy tuck can help you get rid of the stubborn tummy pouch, and breast surgery can enhance and lift sagging or small breasts. Other procedures like the buttock lift, leg lift, and arm lift can target specific body areas to get you back in the bikini game.

Choosing Your Swim Attire

Today’s swimwear styles are creative and cater to all body types. From the Brazilian bikini to the modest one-piece, there is something for everyone out there. If you prefer to ease your way back to the bikini, try a tankini that combines a tank top for more coverage with a normal bikini bottom. Visit a comprehensive swimwear shop and play with different shapes and fits until you find one that flatters. Experts agree the golden rule of choosing swimwear is only this: wear what you feel comfortable in.

As many women age, descriptions of their personal style often change from  “hot” and “sexy” to “tasteful” or “classy.” Whether your philosophy is “leave something to the imagination” or “flaunt it if you’ve got it,” Dr. Aycock and his team can help you fine-tune your shape with state-of-the-art body contouring procedures.

To quote Today Show co-anchor Natalie Morales, “If Sharon Stone can do it at age 53, then why can’t you?”

VelaShape: Nonsurgical Body Contouring

August 23rd, 2009

For those of you who have tried everything to get your ideal body shape — from fad diets to special garments — there’s a new, nonsurgical approach to body contouring that is turning heads due to its incredible results.

VelaShape™ is the first FDA-approved* body shaping procedure that requires no surgery.

Here’s How it Works:

VelaShape technology uses a safe combination of radiofrequency energy, infrared laser light energy, vacuum suction and mechanical massage to tighten, tone, and slim. These high-tech applications are used on fatty body areas to minimize the volume of fat and create a slimmer, smaller appearance. Light and heat energy smooth out the areas and shrink the size of fat cells during the virtually painless session.

Many VelaShape patients are amazed when measurements are taken after the procedure and a smaller body circumference (an average loss of 1 inch) is reached in as little as four treatments. You should see maximum results at about 6 – 8 weeks after your last treatment. And, best of all, there’s no downtime!

Are You a VelaShape Candidate?

If you desire to reduce the volume and appearance of fat in the thighs, buttocks, love handles, or abdomen, this cosmetic procedure might be a wonderful solution for you. VelaShape has shown positive results on men and women of all skin types and skin tones. If the idea of a nonsurgical body shaping procedure interests you, talk to an experienced body contouring surgeon to discuss the risk factors and decide if VelaShape is right for you.
