Sciton® ClearScan™ in San Francisco, CA

Feeling self-conscious about unwanted hair? Shaving, waxing, and depilatory creams can all help, but the results are temporary. Electrolysis has been used in the past but is both time consuming and inefficient. With Sciton® ClearScan™ laser treatment from board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Aycock, San Francisco area residents enjoy more targeted results with minimal downtime.

What Is ClearScan™?

ClearScan™ is a unique laser hair removal procedure in that it has been shown to effectively and quickly remove hair across all skin types. Tanned skin can also be treated with the ClearScan™ laser, providing lasting effects and smooth, touchable skin.

Benefits of ClearScan™*

ClearScan™ offers a number of benefits including the following:

  • Reducing the appearance of hair by destroying the hair follicle right at the root. No more shaving! No more nicks and cuts!
  • Softer, smoother skin that’s ready for summer.

How Is ClearScan™ Performed?

ClearScan™ uses a precisely targeted laser to destroy the hair follicle at the source. Many patients report feeling “prickly,” like a light rubber band flicked against the skin. The ClearScan™ laser will pass over the area being treated. A cooling system will then help dissipate the heat from the hair follicles being treated and will provide you with added comfort.

What Treatments Are Available?

Waxing, shaving, and the use of depilatory creams are well-established methods for hair removal, although temporary. Electrolysis is the traditional tried and tested method for hair removal but is often very time-consuming and inefficient. These days, the most popular and most effective method for hair removal is the use of lasers, which have been specifically designed to damage and destroy many hairs in a short time, with little chance of complications. People are interested in laser hair removal because it involves new and efficient technology and because its effects are valid in most of its subjects.

Can All Skin Colors Be Treated?*

Yes, all skin types I through VI can be treated. Skin Type I is very fair, always burns, and never tans (usually blonde hair and blue eyes). Skin Type VI never burns (black skin, black hair).

Can Tanned Skin Be Treated?*

Tanned skin can be treated safely, but always inform your physician if you have been tanning or exposed to the sun within the last three weeks, and he will adjust your treatment regimen accordingly to give you the safest most effective experience.

Can In-Grown Hair Be Treated?*

The infrared energy delivered by ClearScan™ can be used to remove all types of hair. Sometimes “shaving bumps” can cover a follicle, but the penetrating light of the ClearScan™ can still be safely used.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?*

You may need to be treated about 3 to 5 times at approximately 5 to 8-week intervals. There are three phases of hair growth – anagen, catagen, and telogen. Only hairs in the active growth, anagen, can be successfully treated.

Preparing for ClearScan™

While tanned skin can be treated with ClearScan™, you should let your surgeon know if you have been tanning anytime in the previous three weeks so that your ClearScan™ treatment can be properly optimized.

ClearScan™ Recovery*

You may experience a feeling like a bad sunburn after the treatment. In addition, different areas of the skin are more sensitive than others. A topical anesthetic can be provided to help numb any discomfort. If you are very sensitive, please let us know in advance so that we can provide the appropriate treatment regimen. You should also keep the area clean and use a minimum of SPF 15 sunblock when outdoors.
