Breast Enlargement - San Francisco
By Bay Area Surgeon Dr. Aycock
Breast enlargement (breast augmentation) is a surgical procedure to enhance the size and shape of a woman's breasts. Breast augmentation surgery is a personal decision that women make for a number of reasons; some common reasons for a woman to choose breast implant surgery include:
- To enhance body contour
- To restore breast volume after pregnancy
- To balance a difference in breast size
- As a reconstructive technique following mastectomy
Who is a Candidate for Breast Enlargement Surgery?
Breast augmentation can enhance a woman's appearance and self-confidence, and many women feel that fuller breasts help create a more balanced physique. Most women also enjoy shopping for form-fitting new clothes following breast implant surgery, as fuller breasts can make women feel sexier than ever before.
In your initial consultation, Dr. Aycock, a San Francisco breast augmentation surgeon, will evaluate your health and explain which surgical techniques are most appropriate for you, based on the condition of your breasts and skin tone. If your breasts are sagging, he may also recommend a breast lift.

Breast Enlargement Procedure Information
Bay Area surgeon Dr. Aycock will give you instructions to prepare for surgery, including guidelines on eating and drinking, smoking, and taking or avoiding certain vitamins and medications.
By inserting a saline or silicone breast implant behind each breast, Dr. Aycock is able to increase a woman's bustline by one or more bra cup sizes. A saline breast implant is a silicone shell filled with a saltwater solution. Alternatively, a new generation of silicone gel breast implants is now available. The method of inserting and positioning your breast implant will depend on your anatomy, the type of implant that you choose, and Dr. Aycock's recommendation. The incision can be made either in the crease where the breast meets the chest, around the areola (the dark skin surrounding the nipple), or in the armpit. Every effort will be made to assure that the incision is placed so resulting scars will be as inconspicuous as possible.
Working through the incision, Dr. Aycock will lift your breast tissue and skin to create a pocket, either directly behind the breast tissue or underneath your chest wall muscle (the pectoral muscle). The breast implants are then centered beneath your nipples.
Breast enlargement surgery usually takes one to two hours to complete. Stitches are used to close the incisions, which may also be taped for greater support. A gauze bandage may be applied over your breasts to help with healing.
Recovery from Breast Augmentation Surgery
Before you arrive for breast augmentation surgery, you should make arrangements for a friend or family member to drive you home after your plastic surgery and to be available to help you out for a few days.
You may feel sore and tired for the first few days after your surgery, but you should be able to get up and around within a day or two following breast surgery. Discomfort can usually be controlled by oral medication prescribed by Dr. Aycock.
You should be able to return to work within a few days, depending on the level of activity required for your job.
