Sciton Laser Skin Treatments - Non-Surgical Facial Rejuvenation

Sciton MLP - MicroLaser PeelTM — "The Weekend Peel"
MicroLaser Peel treats skin conditions associated with aging and active life styles. MicroLaser Peel is the ideal treatment for those patients that want improved skin with immediate lasting results, little time off, discomfort, or post-treatment care.
Does this sound like you?
"I've always been active. Years ago I was unaware of the effects of sun and wind on my skin. Although I don't feel as old as I sometimes look I'm not ready for surgery or a long recovery process, but I'd love to look as young as I feel!"
The "weekend" skin peel, the MicroLaser Peel, treats skin conditions associated with aging and an active lifestyle. You can see real improvements in just a few days.
What is the MicroLaser Peel?
The Sciton MicroLaser Peel is a minimal to full epidermal laser peel that precisely removes the outermost layers of the skin. The procedure is individually tailored to the nature of the problem to be corrected: wrinkles, scars, keratoses, or pigmentation problems.
Who should consider a MicroLaser Peel?
The patient looking for better results than microdermabrasion or light chemical peels can offer, yet, still has little time for the healing process.
How is the MicroLaser Peel different from Microdermabrasion?
Generally, microdermabrasion only removes the outer layer (stratum corneum, 10-15 microns) of the skin. Patients may become dissatisfied when the perceived results do not equal expense and the number of procedures required.
The MicroLaser Peel is a minimal to full epidermal peel (20 to 50 microns). Because this procedure goes deeper into the epidermis, it is the perfect step between microdermabrasion and deeper peels.
How often does a MicroLaser Peel need to be done?
One procedure could be sufficient for at least 6 to 12 months, but additional procedures can be performed as required. A package of three to four treatments may be best for you. Dr. Aycock will recommend what is necessary.
What can the patient expect?
Smoother, healthier more vibrant skin. You will notice a significant and immediate change in skin texture and tightness when compared to microdermabrasion.
What type of anesthesia is used?
A topical anesthetic such as Ela-max, Emla or Betacaine Plus is applied thirty to 45 minutes before the procedure.
Do I have to wear any type of dressing or bandage after the procedure?
No. Dr. Aycock will prescribe an ointment such as Aquafore or Vaseline. This is used as a barrier to keep the air away from your skin while you grow new epithelium. You will probably use it for one to two days. After that, a moisturizer can be used.
How long is the healing process?
The healing process varies from patient to patient but will generally take from two to four days. The procedure can be performed on Thursday or Friday and you can return to work the following Monday. Immediately following the procedure you will feel as if you have a bad sunburn. You will have minor sloughing and itchiness the following day. By day two, redness will begin to fade and by day three any redness can be easily covered by makeup.

What areas can be treated?
Any area of your body can be treated. The most common ones are face, neck, hands, chest and shoulders, which typically are the most exposed to the damaging effects of the sun.
How many treatments will I need?
Depending upon lesions treated anywhere from 2 to 5 treatments will produce the desired results.
How long will it take to recover?
This minimally invasive and gentle procedure can be performed during lunch-time with virtually no down-time.
What should I expect after the treatment?
Typically you may experience some redness that will resolve within a few hours. For some pigmented lesions you will see a darkening of the treated areas followed by fading and flaking off at a later stage. Since results vary depending on patient condition, number of treatments and area treated, your physician will provide you with complete information about the post treatment effects and results.
Will it be uncomfortable?
The procedure is gentle and non-invasive. There should be minimal or no discomfort. You may feel a worming of the skin, or a rubber band snap like sensation, as the procedure is performed. This varies from patient to patient and depends on the depth of the treatment. There is no need for any topical anesthesia, however, patients may choose to use it on more sensitive areas. Your physician will recommend the best options during consultation.
What will happen during the procedure?
Your eyes will be protected with safety shields or glasses. You may briefly feel a worming of the skin, or a rubber band snap like sensation, as the light is absorbed by the targeted areas. Your procedure may take a few minutes to half an hour depending on the size of the area to be treated and the type and depth of the procedure performed. Your physician will discuss all the options with you.
What aftercare do I need?
It is important to follow your physician's instructions. You may be given some skin care products and instructions on how to use them. This will minimize your risk of inflammation or redness and ensure the shortest healing time. You will be sensitive to ultra-violet light and you must avoid direct sun exposure until fully healed. Fully cover your skin or use a good sun screen whenever you go outdoors.
Sciton Profile ClearScanTM Hair Removal
ClearScan is an infrared laser that can selectively target microstructures such as hair follicles. It is very effective for lighter skin types, and because of the relatively low absorption of this light by melanin, it is the best choice when treating darker skin types. Additionally, the ability to safely treat sun-tanned skin makes this the treatment of choice for active individuals.
What treatments are available?
Waxing, shaving, and the use of depilatory creams are well-established methods for hair removal, although temporary. Electrolysis is the traditional tried and tested method for permanent hair removal, but is often very time-consuming and inefficient. These days, the most popular and most effective method for hair removal is the use of lasers which have been specifically designed to damage and destroy many hairs in a short time, and with little chance of complications. People are interested in laser hair removal because it involves new and efficient technology, and because its effects are permanent in over most of its subjects.
What is laser hair removal? How does it work?
Laser hair removal offers patients a safe, fast, and effective alternative for dealing with unwanted hair. Lasers work by emitting a specialized light that is passed through the skin and preferentially absorbed by its target, be it an unwanted blood vessel, birthmark, tattoo, or in this case, hair. The laser used in hair removal targets the melanin (color) in the hair follicle, damaging the follicle and removing the hair.
Laser hair removal is safe enough to be used on all body parts, including the face, back, underarms, bikini line, legs, and arms.
Can all skin colors be treated?
Yes all skin types I through VI can be treated. Skin Type I is very fair, always burns, never tans (usually blonde hair and blue eyes). Skin Type VI never burns (black skin, black hair).
Can tanned skin be treated?
Tanned skin can be treated safely, but always inform your physician if you have been tanning or exposed to the sun within the last three weeks, and he will adjust your treatment regime accordingly to give you the safest most effective experience.
Can in-grown hair be treated?
The infrared energy delivered by ClearScan can be used to remove all types of hair. Sometimes "shaving bumps" can cover a follicle, but the penetrating light of the ClearScan can still be safely used.
What happens during hair removal treatment?
Your physician will discuss the treatment with you and decide if you need a topical anesthetic cream. The area of your skin that is to be treated will be scanned with laser light from the Profile system. Treatment time will depend upon the area to be treated. A system for cooling you skin will be used to remove heat as it leaves the follicles and should ensure a comfortable treatment. However, since the sensation varies from individual to individual, a topical anesthesia can be provided. Let your physician know if you are very sensitive.
How does it work?
The ClearScan laser selectively targets your hair follicles and heats them with infra-red energy. Unlike other processes the laser beam treats many hairs at once making treatment of large areas practical. The Profile employs a unique computer guided scanning system that automates the treatment, ensuring that you skin is rapidly and evenly treated. The computer sets the parameters and places the beam in an optimum pattern for your skin. You will have a safe, fast, effective, and gentle treatment.
What should I expect after treatment?
Some redness and slight swelling may be present in the area that has been treated, however, this should subside within a few hours. If any prolonged redness or swelling occurs then consult your physician. Keep area clean. Use at least SPF 15 sunscreen when outdoors. Follow physician instructions.
Is treatment permanent?
On average, each laser treatment will be associated with some permanent hair loss. So in most cases hair removal can only be achieved after several treatments. The number of treatments will depend on each patient's individual response to laser therapy, and the amount of hair to be removed. Remember that the goal may not be total hair removal. Many patients are happy with a reasonable degree of hair reduction. Also remember that the hair that remains is often lighter in color and thinner than the original hair prior to laser therapy. As with other treatments for unwanted hair, there is no guarantee that laser hair removal treatment will be permanent.
How many treatments will I need?
You may need to be treated about 3 to 5 times at approximately 5 to 8 week intervals. There are three phases of hair growth - anagen, catagen, and telogen. Only hairs in the active growth, anagen, can be successfully treated.
Does treatment hurt? What can I expect with the procedure?
Most patients describe laser hair removal as feeling "prickly," or like the light snap of a rubber band against the skin. Afterwards, it might feel like a bad sunburn. Each patient has his or her own level of skin sensitivity and pain threshold. Different areas on the body are also more sensitive than others.
On the day of your treatment, plan on wearing clothing that will allow easy access to the area being treated. You may not need any type of anesthesia for your treatments. Laser hair removal works best when the hair is 1 to 2 millimeters in length. No specific care is needed after the treatment.
How long will it take my skin to heal?
Normally the skin just looks red and swollen for up to 48 hours, or possibly longer. Some patients will be offered to have a small area tested before undergoing a full treatment. This gives them a idea of how the treatment will feel, and the length of time it will take to obtain the desired result. Occasionally, patients can develop a blistering reaction. If this happens, call your treating physician and ask for specific post-laser treatment options.
What will I look like immediately afterwards?
Generally, some redness will remain for approximately five to seven days. For some patients recovery time will be less while other patients will have prolonged redness.
