Facelift

What Is a Facelift?

As we age, our skin elasticity diminishes, creating wrinkles, creases, folds, and fat deposits on the face and neck. Sun exposure, stress, and genetics can all contribute to the aging process as well. Although a facelift can’t stop the aging process, it can help you look years younger.

With today’s technology, facelifts are becoming more commonplace and people are choosing to have them earlier. A facelift can help reduce the look of wrinkles, fine lines, and creases and can be done in conjunction with other types of facial surgery as well, including brow lifts, eye lifts, cheek and chin implants, and much more.

  • A renewed vigor and youthful look that encourages many people to comment that “you don’t look your age!”.
  • A fresh burst of self-confidence and improved self-esteem.
  • Tighter, more toned-looking skin.

Preparing for a Facelift

You may be asked to have lab testing or a medical evaluation done to rule out any external issues that may interfere with your surgery. You may also be asked to start, discontinue, or adjust your current medication schedule. You’ll recover more quickly if you stop smoking, and you should avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory medicines, or any herbal supplements as these can increase bleeding.

How Is a Facelift Performed?

Depending on whether or not the facelift is a standalone procedure or if it will be done with other cosmetic procedures, a facelift has numerous steps. Dr. Aycock will probably make an incision in the hair, lifting the skin away from the fat and muscle underneath and removing excess fat.

Dr. Aycock will then tighten the remaining tissue and then secures the skin with sutures to create a natural, youthful, and more balanced appearance.

If sagging jowls, loose neck skin (colloquially known as “turkey neck”), and other issues are present, a neck lift may be performed to help tighten this skin.

Facelift Recovery*

There will be some swelling and bruising in the affected area(s), but once these subside, the results will be noticeable almost immediately. Incisional scarring will be discreetly hidden. You may be asked to wear a bandage around your face to help minimize swelling. Dr. Aycock will provide you with specific details about your recovery and which steps to follow after your surgery takes place.
