  • Prep your home. It’s always recommended that you prepare your home for healing well in advance of your surgery. For example, stock up your kitchen with meals that can keep for a week, get all your entertainment in order, and arrange everything else you need to feel more comfortable in the days after your surgery.
  • Ask for help. Make sure you have someone who can pick you up from surgery and help you around the house for the first few days of your recovery. It’ll be tough to move and you’ll likely need pain pills, so it’s always a good idea to ensure someone is checking in on you.

  • Get used to sleeping on your back. Before your surgery, get used to sleeping on your back, if you’re a side or stomach sleeper. It’s recommended you sleep propped up at a 45 degree angle for four weeks to six weeks while you heal as sleeping on your side or stomach can create painful pressure on your abdomen. Graduate to your back as discomfort subsides. You will eventually be able to sleep in your favorite position.
  • Follow your surgeon’s recovery plan. Your surgeon will provide you with a detailed plan on the steps you need to take in order to have a successful recovery. Be sure to follow it!
