Cheek Implants

What Is a Cheek Implant?

High cheekbones are a defining characteristic of a sophisticated appearance, but not everyone is born with perfect facial bone structure. However, cheek implant surgery (cheek augmentation) can enhance cheek contours, creating a look that you have always wanted.

Small or asymmetrical cheek structure is typically the result of genetics, but aging can also reduce cheek tissue. Cheek implants can be used to improve facial symmetry and create a more youthful, refined appearance.

It may be performed as a standalone procedure or with other facial plastic surgery including a brow lift, chin lift, or rhinoplasty (“nose job”).

Benefits of a Cheek Implant

A cheek implant can give you the beautiful, noticeable cheeks of your dreams. Beyond that, it can do the following:

  • Help reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles associated with stress and aging.
  • Give you greater self-esteem and confidence.
  • Improve your facial structure and tighten the skin.

Preparing for a Cheek Implant

You may be asked to have lab testing or a medical evaluation done to rule out any external issues that may interfere with your surgery. You may also be asked to start, discontinue, or adjust your current medication schedule. You’ll recover more quickly if you stop smoking, and you should avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory medicines, or any herbal supplements as these can increase bleeding.

How Is a Cheek Implant Performed?

Cheek implant surgery is typically performed on an outpatient basis under either general or local anesthesia, depending upon the situation. Dr. Aycock will make a small incision either in the hairline, under the upper lip or in the lower eyelid. If a facelift or another facial surgery is being performed at the same time, then the corresponding incision will be used. Dr. Aycock will then insert a pre-shaped implant through the incision against the cheek bone, which is held in place by the existing tissue.

Cheek Implant Recovery*

Unless another procedure is being performed at the same time, such as a facelift or brow lift, then dressings are typically unnecessary following cheek enhancement surgeries. Initial swelling is usually very mild, and any discomfort can easily be controlled with oral medications prescribed by Dr. Aycock. Dr. Aycock will go over the proper recovery steps for your unique situation after your surgery is complete.
