Chin Implant

What Is a Chin Implant?

A chin implant is a custom-made implant inserted in the chin area to help give the chin a better proportion in connection with the rest of the face. A small chin may make your nose look bigger or may draw unwanted attention to other areas of the face. With a chin implant (also known as a chin lift), your face will look more contoured and proportionate alongside the rest of your natural features.

Preparing for a Chin Implant

You may be asked to have lab testing or a medical evaluation done to rule out any external issues that may interfere with your surgery. You may also be asked to start, discontinue, or adjust your current medication schedule. You’ll recover more quickly if you stop smoking, and you should avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory medicines, or any herbal supplements as these can increase bleeding.

How Is a Chin Implant Performed?

Chin enhancement surgery is typically performed on an outpatient basis with either general or local anesthesia. Dr. Aycock will make an incision under the chin or inside the lower lip, through which a pre-formed chin implant is placed.

Implants may be made of synthetic material, such as silicone or constructed of harvested donor tissues or the patient’s own bone from elsewhere in the body.

Chin surgery is sometimes performed in conjunction with a facelift or other cosmetic or reconstructive procedure.

Chin Implant Recovery*

You will have bandages placed over your chin area and although you will see the results right away, the true beauty of your chin implant may be masked by some swelling or bruising, which will gradually diminish over time.
