What Is Botox®?
Botox® Cosmetic is an injectable product used to paralyze the muscles that cause facial wrinkles and creases in the forehead and between the eyebrows, neck bands, lip lines, and crow’s feet.
Dr. Aycock offers a personalized Botox® treatment program that relaxes the muscles and the skin for a smooth appearance. The effects of Botox® Cosmetic usually last for three to six months and can be repeated as needed.
Botox® Cosmetic is a product that has been safely used to treat various conditions for more than ten years. Botox® Cosmetic is now FDA approved for the reduction of frown lines.
Dr. Aycock and his staff may use a local anesthetic cream or ice to minimize discomfort during the injection process, depending upon your preference.
Dr. Aycock is a trainer for Botox® Cosmetic and dermal filler injections.
Benefits of Botox®
Botox® offers a number of benefits including the following:
- Minimizing the appearance of dynamic wrinkles, which are wrinkles and creases that form only when you do certain facial expressions, such as furrow your brow or frown.
- Increasing your self-confidence, improving the tone and texture of your skin, and improving your self-esteem.
Preparing for Botox®
You may be asked to have lab testing or a medical evaluation done to rule out any external issues that may interfere with your treatment. You may also be asked to start, discontinue, or adjust your current medication schedule. You’ll recover more quickly if you stop smoking, and you should avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory medicines, or any herbal supplements as these can increase bleeding.
How Is Botox® Administered?
Botox® is an injectable and should only be injected by a board-certified plastic surgeon, such as Dr. Aycock. Using a very fine needle, Dr. Aycock or one of his trained and licensed registered nurses injects the Botox into certain muscles of the face. Botox® prevents the muscles from contracting, which smoothes out wrinkles.
Ice or a local anesthetic cream may be used to help ease any discomfort at the injection site. You may feel a slight headache or discomfort at the injection site. Rarely (in less than 1% of cases), some drooping of the eyelids may occur, causing the brows to return to their normal position within a few months of treatment. You’ll ideally want to repeat your Botox® procedure every 3-6 months for lasting results.
