NeoGraft® Hair Restoration

What is NeoGraft® Hair Restoration?

NeoGraft® is a process that allows a patient’s bald or thinning hair spots to be filled in naturally by transferring hair follicles from one area of the scalp to another. This procedure is minimally-invasive, requiring no incision and leaving no scar behind. The results are extremely natural looking, meaning no one will notice anything but the results.

Preparing for NeoGraft® Hair Restoration

We recommend patients discontinue certain medications for a period of time leading up to the restoration. The exact requirements will be discussedHair Restoration Walnut Creek with you during your consultation. The day before your surgery, wash your hair with a sterile solution known as Hibiclens, which will be provided to you, and your regular shampoo. Do not wash your hair the morning of your appointment. You should arrange transportation to and from your surgery, and plan on allowing an entire day for the procedure. You’ll also need to schedule errands around your restoration, and limit activities the day of your visit.

How is NeoGraft® Hair Restoration Performed?

This procedure makes use of a technology known as Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) to remove individual hair follicles from areas of the scalp where they are plentiful, such as the back of the neck, and then transplant them into thinning or bald areas. It is performed in our office under local anesthesia.

Using a special handheld device, we will first extract hair follicles by selecting them with the unit’s controls, which provide a suction base. Once approximately 50 or so follicles have been extracted, we will then remove them from the device, where they will be placed in a Petri dish containing a saline holding solution. We will then continue the extraction process until we have all the follicles that are needed. An arm on the NeoGraft® device is then used to suction follicles from the dish. Next, we will use air pressure to deliver these follicles into precisely the right area via a needle tip, which allows them to be injected exactly where needed.

NeoGraft® Hair Restoration Recovery*

You may feel tired immediately after a NeoGraft® procedure since local anesthesia is used. As such, you should plan on taking it easy the remainder of the day. Strenuous activity should also be avoided for up to two weeks. You should not wash your hair for the first 24 hours, at which time it is recommended you only wet it lightly. Use a cup to rinse rather than a streaming shower for the first five days to ensure grafts do not become dislodged. Leave pressure dressings in place for at least 24 hours, and avoid smoking, drinking alcohol, or taking aspirin during this time as well.
