Sciton® MicroLaser Peel™

What Is a MicroLaser Peel™?

A MicroLaser Peel™ is a targeted laser treatment therapy that removes the outermost layers of the skin. Unlike a related procedure, microdermabrasion, a MicroLaser Peel™ performs a deeper removal of the skin, going beyond the surface to treat core problems. It is an ideal step between microdermabrasion and deeper chemical peels.

Preparing for a MicroLaser Peel™

Your skin may feel red and sore after the treatment (like a bad sunburn), so you may wish to take a day or two off work to allow your skin proper time to heal and for the redness to dissipate. A MicroLaser Peel™ is often called a “weekend peel” because of its two-day recovery time.

How Is a MicroLaser Peel™ Performed?

As its name implies, a MicroLaser Peel™ can target deeper more resilient areas of the skin with laser precision as opposed to more surface treatments such as microdermabrasion. The laser energy is delivered through a computer-controlled scanner that precisely positions the beam over the treatment area. You may hear snapping or popping sounds as the laser beam gently removes the outer layer of skin cells. The procedure is individually tailored to the nature of the problem to be corrected: wrinkles, scars, keratoses, or pigmentation problems.

How is the MicroLaser Peel™ different from Microdermabrasion?

Generally, microdermabrasion only removes the outer layer (stratum corneum, 10-15 microns) of the skin. Patients may become dissatisfied when the perceived results do not equal expense and the number of procedures required.

The MicroLaser Peel™ is a minimal to full epidermal peel (20 to 50 microns). Because this procedure goes deeper into the epidermis, it is the perfect step between microdermabrasion and deeper peels.

A local anesthetic will be applied 30-45 minutes before the procedure is about to begin. Afterward, you will be given a topical moisturizing cream which will provide a barrier while the skin heals. It is always a good idea to wear sunscreen to protect the healing skin against UV damage.
