5 Common Side Effects of CoolSculpting

Below are the five most common side effects of CoolSculpting; keep in mind that most side effects only last for two to three days.

1. Mild bruising.

CoolSculpting uses a “vacuuming” effect to pull the skin up closer to the handle, where cooling energy is emitted. This effect can create minor bruising, which may be present for about a week or so, depending on the patient.

2. Minor swelling.

Swelling is perhaps the most common side effect of CoolSculpting, as the freezing energy – combined with the vacuuming effect – creates minor swelling that can be present for a couple of weeks. That’s why we recommend that anyone seeking CoolSculpting for a special event schedule their very last session at least six weeks beforehand.

3. Tenderness to the touch.

For the first 72 hours, the body area where you were treated with CoolSculpting may feel tender or sensitive to the touch.

4. Redness.

The vacuuming effect that’s common with CoolSculpting can create some redness at the treatment site, but this redness usually fades after about 48 to 72 hours.

5. Tingling sensation.

The tingling sensation is usually a sign that your fat cells are starting to shrink down; this side effect usually lasts for about 24 to 72 hours.

With the exception of swelling and bruising, if any of your side effects last longer than one week, we recommend scheduling a follow-up appointment or seeing your doctor.

I finally had coolsculpting on my tummy and what a surprisingly easy treatment it was. Ashley the nurse was fantastic and she used the new hand piece that is smaller and faster. It was painless except for the 2-minute massage after the treatment but not bad at all. I’m a little sore today but this was easy-breezy and I can’t wait to see my results. I highly recommend it.
