Are you frustrated by lines and wrinkles around your forehead, eyes, and mouth? Dysport® is an injectable treatment that smooths mild to severe wrinkles, leaving you looking youthful and refreshed. This treatment is similar to Botox®, offering the same wrinkle-smoothing effects, and is often preferred over Botox® in many cases.

What is Dysport®?

Dysport® is known as a neuromodulator or neurotoxin. Like Botox®, it uses botulinum toxin, a compound that temporarily relaxes facial muscles. Dysport® is FDA-approved for the area between the brows (glabellar lines) and is widely used in many other areas, such as crow’s feet, marionette lines, and forehead creases. Healthy adults of any age can use Dysport® to smooth or even prevent lines and wrinkles.

How is Dysport® Administered?

Like other neuromodulators, Dysport® is administered as a series of injections. The number of injections needed depends on the size of the treatment area and your desired amount of muscle relaxation. The injections generally feel like a small pinch. Most people have no problem tolerating them, and topical numbing cream is available to avoid feeling anything during the process, which usually takes less than half an hour.

Injecting Dysport® requires artistry and skill to achieve natural-looking results. Dr. Aycock and his expert injectors are highly trained and experienced in this treatment. They will provide results that let you look relaxed and refreshed without any artificial look.

How Does Dysport® Work?

Dysport® uses botulinum toxin to smooth lines and wrinkles. It works by stopping targeted facial nerves from sending signals to your muscles. In the absence of signals, these muscles stop contracting and creasing your skin. Your skin relaxes, becoming smoother and letting the wrinkles melt away. Dysport® does not damage the nerve in any way and has no permanent or harmful effects.

Is Dysport® Better than Botox®?

Dysport® and Botox® are close relatives with a few important differences. They both use the same active ingredient, but they use different proteins to help them travel to their targeted nerves. The protein used by Dysport® allows it to reach and bind to the nerve more quickly. As a result, Dysport® results can appear within 24 hours and achieve full results in two to three days, while Botox® results can take seven days or more to become fully visible.

Am I a Good Candidate for Dysport®?

Dysport® is safe and effective for most people. Good candidates want to address or prevent lines and wrinkles. People can begin Dysport® as early as their 20s. Candidates should have reasonable expectations and no significant health problems. You should not have Dysport® injections if you have an infection or active skin condition in the treatment area. You may not be eligible if you have certain medical conditions.
