5 Signs You’re a Good Candidate for Tummy Tuck Surgery

1. You’re close to your ideal weight.

If you’re within 15 to 25 pounds of your ideal weight, you may be a good candidate for a tummy tuck surgery. Keep in mind that this weight should be stable and easy for you to maintain; you shouldn’t aim for an “ideal” weight that’s actually not healthy for your body.

2. You have sagging stomach skin.

The main goal of the abdominoplasty procedure is to repair damaged abdominal walls and remove excess skin to show off your new contours. Most candidates have this damage as a result of pregnancy or the aging process.

If you have excess stomach fat – in addition to sagging skin – you may want to combine your tummy tuck surgery with liposuction.

3. You’re done having kids.

Tummy tuck surgery involves contouring and repairing the abdominal walls, so we don’t recommend it for women who are planning on getting pregnant again.

4. You’re healthy.

The ideal candidate will be a physically healthy individual who, if necessary, can stop taking blood-thinning medications before surgery. If you smoke, you should be willing to quit at least six weeks before and six weeks after your procedure.

5. You have grounded realistic expectations for your results.

Tummy tuck surgery can be a real boost to your self-confidence, but it shouldn’t be seen as a be-all, end-all for your life. No plastic surgery can solve deeper emotional issues, so the ideal candidate should have reasonable expectations for her surgery.

I had my TT on April 30th 2012. My Doctor was very awesome and I’m very satisfied with my results. Never felt any real pain. Sleeping was a little uncomfortable, wish I had got a recliner like most of the other ladies. However I’m still have swelling and some fluids on my stomach. My Doc informed me that it could take anywhere from 6 to 9 months for full results. I’m kind of scard to get back out and exercise from reading some horror stories. Before tuck I was walking 3 to 4 miles three times a week. I plan to get back out there this weekend and join the gym. Over all very happy with results so far. Can’t wait to get in my jeans again and get out of this Binder. Current using Mederma on my scar. How were you ladies feeling after 7 weeks?
