Are you frustrated by loose skin and excess fat in your abdominal area? Pregnancy, weight loss, or other causes can leave you struggling to regain your figure. A tummy tuck can restore a slimmer, flatter abdomen. If the appearance of your stomach makes you feel self-conscious, a tummy tuck provides a solution.

What is a Tummy Tuck or Abdominoplasty?

The abdomen is one of the most challenging areas of the body to shape and contour. The body naturally stores fat in the abdominal area and resists attempts to remove it. No amount of weight loss or exercise will tighten loose skin. Exercise also cannot repair the separation of the abdominal muscles, a condition that often happens during pregnancy. A tummy tuck or abdominoplasty addresses all these concerns with one procedure.

How Does Tummy Tuck Work?

A tummy tuck is a customized procedure that can vary depending on the amount of excess skin and fat. Dr. Aycock will make an incision across the lower abdomen and remove loose skin. He will also remove stubborn fat and tighten the abdominal muscles. You may also need a small incision around the belly button so it can be repositioned on your flatter stomach. When healed, the incision will be hidden under most undergarments and swimwear.

Do I Need Liposuction or a Tummy Tuck?

Not everyone who struggles with excess abdominal fat needs a tummy tuck. Liposuction may be a good option if you have stubborn fat without excess skin. If you do not have any sagging skin and good skin elasticity, liposuction can remove your unwanted fat and give you the flatter stomach you want. Liposuction cannot repair abdominal muscles or remove loose skin, so a tummy tuck is the better option for these concerns.

What is Recovery Like From a Tummy Tuck?

You should expect to spend the first week after your tummy tuck resting and recovering. A compression garment will help manage your swelling and support you as you heal. Many people return to work within two weeks. You may need to wait an additional week if your job requires physical activity. You will usually be able to resume your usual exercise routine after four to six weeks.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Tummy Tuck or Abdominoplasty?

You may be a good candidate for abdominoplasty if you want to flatten and tighten your abdominal area. Ideal candidates are in good health and have reasonable expectations. You might not be a good candidate if you plan to become pregnant in the future since this will re-stretch your abdominal skin and muscles.

I finally had coolsculpting on my tummy and what a surprisingly easy treatment it was. Ashley the nurse was fantastic and she used the new hand piece that is smaller and faster. It was painless except for the 2-minute massage after the treatment but not bad at all. I’m a little sore today but this was easy-breezy and I can’t wait to see my results. I highly recommend it.
