Whether your upper lip has thinned with age or has always lacked volume, lip fillers are the most common choice. However, more people are now choosing a lip lift instead. This minor procedure gives your upper lip more lift and definition, making it look naturally fuller.

What is a Lip Lift?

A lip lift is a procedure that tightens the skin between the upper lip and the nose, lifting the lip so more of the pink, plump-looking part becomes visible. This enhances your cupid’s bow, giving your upper lip more definition and shape. It also reveals more of your upper front teeth for a brighter smile.

Unlike lip fillers, which you will need to have once or twice a year and can cause bruising, a lip lift gives you long-lasting results that will not require regular maintenance. Because a lip lift must be performed correctly to avoid a visible scar, it should only be performed by an experienced surgeon like Dr. Aycock.

How Does a Lip Lift Work?

A lip lift is a short procedure that uses a small incision at the base of the nose between the nostrils. Dr. Aycock uses this incision to shorten the distance between the top of the lip and the base of the nose. The area between them is called the philtrum, and shortening it causes the upper lip to turn outward, revealing more of your lip and providing a fuller, plumper appearance.

What is Recovery Like After a Lip Lift?

The area at the base of your nose may look swollen and feel sore for a few days after surgery. You can return to most of your usual activities but avoid heavy lifting or strenuous exercise until you are told you can resume them. Avoid any activities that could result in anything striking you in the face or otherwise disturbing the area while it heals.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Lip Lift?

A lip lift is a minor procedure performed with a local anesthetic, making it safe for most people. Good candidates want to create the appearance of additional lip volume and achieve a more attractive lip shape. Candidates should have reasonable expectations and understand that any surgical procedure has risks. You should not have this procedure if you have certain medical conditions.

What are the Benefits of a Lip Lift?

Lip lifts are becoming increasingly popular as people realize how much this procedure can enhance your appearance. Reasons you might choose a lip lift include:

  • Give the look of plump, full lips
  • Reveal more of the pink, soft-looking part of the lip
  • Show more of your upper teeth
  • Achieve a more defined cupid’s bow
  • Avoid repeated visits and uncomfortable lip injections
