What is Latisse®?
Latisse® is an innovative treatment used to lengthen the lashes without the need for lash extensions or false lashes. Applying the latisse liquid to your lash line results in thicker, fuller, and longer lashes over time. Latisse® works by applying a serum directly to stimulate growth.
Latisse® comes in a topical form that you can apply to your upper eyelid lashes at home. When you blink, the formula automatically spreads over your lower eyelashes, encouraging them to grow thicker as well. Our clinical aestheticians recommend against applying Latisse® directly to your lower eyelid directly because of the risk of irritation.
Latisse® treatments begin with two months of nightly use, where you apply the solution directly. You will start noticing increases in thickness, fullness, and eyelash darkness after regular use and application. Some patients may also notice an increase in eyelash length.
After you complete the first two-month phase, you will need to regularly apply Latisse® to continue experiencing the benefits. Results can begin to be seen after 6-8 weeks of regular use. We may recommend a treatment schedule of once every two days to maintain your current lash appearance and thickness.
How Latisse® Maximizes Lash Length
Latisse® maximizes lash length through various methods. First by increasing the length of the growth phase at the root of the hair follicle. All follicles on the body go through cycles of hair production and dormancy. Without any intervention, eyelash follicles can remain inactive for a long period and not produce any hairs at all, causing lash thinning. Using Latisse® keeps the growth cycles active for longer, thereby increasing thickness and growth.
Secondly, Latisse® increases the number of hairs that sprout. Because each follicle is active for longer, more hairs grow simultaneously. Over a couple of months of treatment, they pack more deeply, giving you a fuller, enhanced look.
Am I a Candidate for Latisse®?
Good candidates for Latisse® are people in good physical health who do not have eye infections. It also helps to have realistic expectations of the benefits that the treatment can yield. Latisse® increases the output of your existing follicles. It does not create new ones.
In some cases, the Latisse® can produce side effects, including dry eyes and redness of the thin tissue covering the whites of the eyes. In some rare cases, the colored part of the eye may turn brown.
