Breast implants last for many years, but not forever. If you have thought about removing your implants, you might have concerns about what your breasts will look like afterward. Some women will still feel happy with their breasts after implant removal. If you find that your breasts droop after your implant removal, a breast lift can help.

Should I Remove My Breast Implants?

Women have many reasons for wanting to remove their breast implants. All implants should be removed after about ten years, and you may choose not to have them replaced. Some women develop complications such as scar tissue around the implants. If you have issues with your implants, consult your surgeon.

If I Remove My Breast Implants, Will I Need a Breast Lift?

If you remove your breast implants, your breasts will lose some volume. This often leads to sagging or loose skin. The severity of drooping and skin laxity depends on several factors, including:

  • The size of your breasts before implants
  • The size of your implants
  • Your natural skin elasticity
  • Weight and hormonal changes during the time you had implants

If you had larger breasts before getting implants, you have more breast tissue that can droop after implant removal. If you had a larger implant, you might have more loose skin. If you had small breasts before surgery or a small implant, you may see only minor laxity and may not need a breast lift. Dr. Aycock will recommend a breast lift if he feels that you will benefit from one.

How Does a Breast Lift Work?

Dr. Aycock will remove loose skin from the breasts to lift and shape them. He may also resize and reshape the areolas, so they point outward instead of downward. A breast lift will not add or remove volume to your breasts. However, a breast lift can make your breasts look fuller and perkier if your breasts look flat and sagging.

What is Recovery Like After a Breast Lift?

You will have a surgical bra to wear after surgery to support your breasts and control swelling. Dr. Aycock will provide pain medications as needed for the first few days. You can return to work after a week if you feel well enough. You should not lift anything over your head for at least three or four weeks. Dr. Aycock will let you know when you can add other activities to your schedule.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Breast Lift?

If you have your breast implants removed and have concerns about loose skin and sagging breasts, a breast lift may be right for you. Good candidates do not have any significant health problems and do not smoke. Only a consultation can determine whether you are likely to need a breast lift after implant removal.

I finally had coolsculpting on my tummy and what a surprisingly easy treatment it was. Ashley the nurse was fantastic and she used the new hand piece that is smaller and faster. It was painless except for the 2-minute massage after the treatment but not bad at all. I’m a little sore today but this was easy-breezy and I can’t wait to see my results. I highly recommend it.
