Facial expressions help us communicate with others but can lead to lines and wrinkles. Botox® and Dysport® treat lines and wrinkles caused by facial movements. They work similarly but have different properties that can affect their behavior.

What are Botox® and Dysport®?

Both Botox® and Dysport® use a protein called botulinum toxin to relax dynamic lines and wrinkles. They work best on lines caused by facial motions and not as well on lines caused by skin laxity. They excel in treating crow’s feet around the eyes, horizontal forehead creases, and frown lines or “11s” between the brows.

How Do Botox® and Dysport® Work?

Botox® and Dysport® use slightly different formulas that change their properties, but they work in the same fundamental way. They travel to the targeted facial nerves and tell them to stop sending signals to your facial muscles. As a result, the muscles and skin relax, smoothing away lines and wrinkles. The effects of botulinum toxin cause no damage to the muscle or nerve, and signaling returns to normal when the treatment wears off.

Is Botox® or Dysport® Right for Me?

Dr. Aycock and his team prefer Dysport® over Botox® for several reasons.

  • Dysport® gives longer-lasting results
  • Dysport® spreads out better than competitors
  • You will need less Dysport® to see the same results
  • Dysport® results tend to look more natural
  • Dysport® does not require refrigeration, making it easier and cheaper to store
  • Most people report feeling highly satisfied with their Dysport® results

What Results Will I See With Botox® or Dysport®?

If you have Botox® injections, you can expect results after seven to ten days. Dysport®  results often appear within two to three days. While Botox® results usually last three to four months, Dysport® can last up to five months. You will notice that lines and wrinkles look softer and less visible, although many people find that Dysport® spreads out better for a more natural appearance.

Is There Any Downtime With Botox® or Dysport®?

Both treatments may cause some minor bruising, soreness, or swelling in the treatment area. These effects resolve within a day or two. Your session will only last 15 to 20 minutes, and you can return to your daily routine afterward. Avoid rubbing your face after treatment and wait 24 hours before resuming your exercise routine.

Am I a Good Candidate for Botox® or Dysport®?

If you have dynamic lines and wrinkles, you may be a good candidate for Botox® or Dysport®. These products have an extensive history of safety and effectiveness. They work for most people, but you may not be a good candidate if you have had a reaction to a similar treatment or if you have certain medical conditions.

I finally had coolsculpting on my tummy and what a surprisingly easy treatment it was. Ashley the nurse was fantastic and she used the new hand piece that is smaller and faster. It was painless except for the 2-minute massage after the treatment but not bad at all. I’m a little sore today but this was easy-breezy and I can’t wait to see my results. I highly recommend it.
