What is Dysport®?
Like other wrinkle relaxers, Dysport® uses botulinum neurotoxin to smooth lines and wrinkles. Despite being called a neurotoxin, Dysport® causes no permanent changes or damage to the muscles or nerves. It excels in treating lines and wrinkles around the eyes, brows, and forehead but can be used anywhere that other wrinkle relaxers like Botox® are used.
How Does Dysport® Work?
With each facial expression, your skin creases, and wrinkles. At first, these wrinkles relax away when the muscle stops moving, but over time they become deeper and more lasting. Dysport® addresses these lines and wrinkles by preventing the facial nerves from communicating with the muscles. Without input from the nerve, the muscle goes smooth and soft. The overlying skin can also relax, allowing lines and wrinkles to disappear.
How Long Does Dysport® Last?
Your body eventually removes Dysport® from the nerves and eliminates it. Dysport® lasts three to six months. People who have regular maintenance treatments often see results that last longer than those new to Dysport®. You can safely have Dysport® again as soon as your wrinkles return. Some people even start having wrinkle relaxers before they have wrinkles to prevent them from forming.
Is Dysport® Different From Botox®?
People often compare Dysport® to Botox®, the original botulinum toxin injectable. Both products target the facial nerves, in the same way, preventing the nerve from releasing neurotransmitters to signal to the muscle. Some people will see an extra month from Dysport® over Botox®. Many professionals prefer Dysport® because it spreads out in a way that looks smooth and natural. You may also like Dysport® since results appear within a few days compared to two weeks for other wrinkle relaxers. While these products are very similar in most ways, Dr. Aycock’s team prefers Dysport® due to the many advantages it offers.
Is There Any Downtime With Dysport®?
Some people notice slight bruising or sensitivity in the injection area that can last a day or two. You can resume your usual activities as soon as you finish treatment. Results start to appear within a few days.
Am I a Good Candidate for Dysport®?
Botulinum neurotoxins like Dysport® are FDA-approved and demonstrated to be safe and effective. Most people make good candidates for Dysport®. You might not make a good candidate if you have certain neuromuscular conditions or if you have had a reaction to this kind of product.
