Liposuction is one of the more well-known and talked about cosmetic procedures in the industry. When it was first introduced, there was only one method of providing the treatment. As technology has advanced, an alternative to traditional liposuction was born. Regardless of which method you opt for, both are considered fat removal treatments as they help to get rid of excess fat from specific areas of your body.

2 Types of Liposuction

There are two main types of liposuction provided by Dr. Aycock at his practice:

ProLipo™

ProLipo™ is an FDA-approved laser treatment to tackle stubborn areas of fat. A special handpiece is used to apply laser energy to the target area, which gets transferred into heat energy. The presence of this heat enters the fatty tissue and basically melts it away. As with traditional liposuction, an incision is made, with a cannula inserted into the small opening. The cannula contains the laser, which then gets to work. A benefit of ProLipo™ is that the laser energy also stimulates collagen production, tightening the skin in the area.

Traditional Liposuction

Traditional lipo has been around for decades and involves a tried and tested method of fat removal. Similar to the above, the process begins by preparing the target area and making an incision. The big difference is that the cannula that enters the opening will suck out the excess fatty tissue from the area.

Both liposuction methods can be used on their own or together. They’re suitable for removing fat from stubborn areas of the body – such as the neck, hips, stomach, and buttocks. You can also opt for liposuction alongside many other treatments, and it is often seen as a core part of a mommy makeover.

Benefits of Liposuction

Either type of liposuction is beneficial as it is proven to remove unwanted fat from areas of your body. If you have tried everything to get rid of stubborn fat, but it won’t go away, our liposuction options can provide a solution.

Moreover, once the fat has been removed from an area of the body, it won’t come back. The fat cells themselves have now disappeared, so the results can be permanent – provided you maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Consequently, the benefit of liposuction is that it will restore confidence in how you feel. You’ll start to enjoy looking in the mirror, and you will start wearing clothes that you used to be too embarrassed to put on. Effectively, liposuction can have a very positive impact on your life!

Am I a Candidate for Liposuction?

Candidates for liposuction need to be within 30% of their target weight. You should be following a healthy lifestyle, with liposuction seen as a last resort to remove stubborn fat from a particular part of your body. It is not to be seen as a fat loss alternative to diet and exercise! If you are looking to lose weight, you should do so naturally by exercising and eating healthily. Only then will liposuction be an option, if you need help getting rid of the last bit of fat.
