One of the most popular cosmetic treatments of all time, Botox®, and its related neurotoxins, work to smooth lines and wrinkles. They also find regular use in medical treatments all over the body. Providers administer Botox® through injections. The skilled nurse injectors like those on Dr. Aycock’s team will make a huge difference in the quality of your results.

How Does Botox®? Work?

Most people over time develop expression lines, those crow’s feet around the eyes, forehead creases that can make you look worried, or deep lines between the eyebrows (also called glabellar lines). Botox® helps remove the appearance of these lines and wrinkles by silencing the muscles that create these lines.

Botox® and other neurotoxins work by temporarily paralyzing the muscles that pull the skin into these deep lines and wrinkles. Without the nerve sending signals to the muscle, the skin is relieved of all the pulling and tugging. It can relax and become smoother, losing the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

How is Botox® Administered?

Your injection specialist will administer Botox® directly into the areas of your face where lines and wrinkles have become a problem. You will need a series of injections to treat the entire area. Many people need about 20 units of Botox® to treat the forehead area.

How is Botox® Different From Xeomin® and Dysport®?

Dr. Aycock and his team prefer Dysport® over its competitors, Botox® and Xeomin®. All three come in different formulas that can behave differently in the body. We feel that Dysport® provides the best results. Dysport® works like Botox® by temporarily paralyzing muscles in the face, but Dysport® usually lasts longer. Dysport® results also appear faster than those of other neurotoxin treatments.

How is Botox® Different From Dermal Fillers?

Botox® and dermal fillers are both injectables, but they produce very different results. While Botox® gets rid of lines and wrinkles by relaxing the muscles that cause them, dermal fillers reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles by filling in the area.

Dermal fillers work all over the face to enhance volume and contouring. Botox® does not add volume, but it can address heavy lines and wrinkles in places where dermal fillers do not always work well.

How Long Does Botox® Last?

Botox® lasts about four months. Dysport® lasts the longest at five months. This difference makes up one of many reasons why Dr. Aycock and his team prefer Dysport®.

Is There Any Downtime With Botox®?

You should not experience any downtime from Botox®, although you may experience some minor irritation and swelling around the injection site. The other popular injectables, dermal fillers, also require minimal to no downtime.

Am I a Candidate for Botox®?

If you have lines and wrinkles around the eyes and forehead, such as crow’s feet and other expression lines, you can probably receive Botox®. You can also receive a combination of Botox® and dermal fillers to help address wrinkles both around the eyes and in the lower part of the face.

I finally had coolsculpting on my tummy and what a surprisingly easy treatment it was. Ashley the nurse was fantastic and she used the new hand piece that is smaller and faster. It was painless except for the 2-minute massage after the treatment but not bad at all. I’m a little sore today but this was easy-breezy and I can’t wait to see my results. I highly recommend it.
