If a lifetime of facial expressions has left creases and wrinkles in your skin, you can smooth them away with Botox®. This FDA-approved treatment relaxes lines and wrinkles, so you look younger and more refreshed. Botox® is one of the most popular aesthetic treatments in the world, with millions of people getting injections every year.

What is Botox®?

Botox® and related products like Dysport® use botulinum neurotoxin to smooth lines and wrinkles. It treats lines and wrinkles caused by the action of facial muscles. These dynamic wrinkles form when you laugh, smile, or frown, but Botox® can halt the action of these muscles so your skin relaxes and wrinkles disappear. Dr. Aycock and his injection specialists prefer Dysport® over Botox®, and both work in the same general way, although their formulas differ slightly.

Where Can Botox® Be Used?

Botox® is used for horizontal forehead lines, crow’s feet around the corners of the eyes, and vertical wrinkles between the eyebrows (glabellar lines, also known as the 11’s). The muscles that control these areas contribute to many facial expressions, making this part of the face prone to lines and wrinkles.

How Many Units of Botox® Do I Need?

The number of Botox® units needed will vary depending on the area your injection specialist is treating. Crow’s feet may require between six and ten units on each side, while glabellar lines can require up to 40. Dr. Aycock finds that most people need about 20 units for forehead lines and wrinkles. Your injection specialist will determine how many units to use based on your desired results.

Are Botox®, Dysport®, and Xeomin® Different?

All three of these products work the same way, but their different formulas give them slightly different properties. Dr. Aycock and his team prefer Dysport® over Botox® or Xeomin®. Compared to similar products, Dysport® results appear more quickly, last longer, and require fewer units to achieve results.

What Results Will I See With Botox®?

Results from Botox® may start to appear after a few days but will take a week or more to develop completely. Botox® typically lasts three to four months. In comparison, Dysport® results are fully visible within a few days and can last up to five months.

Am I a Good Candidate for Botox®?

Most people make good candidates for Botox® and Dysport®. Both have been FDA-approved as safe and effective. You should not have Botox® if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. People with certain medical conditions may not make good candidates.

Is There Any Downtime With Botox®?

You can return to your usual activities the day following your

Botox® injections. You might have some minor bruises in the injection area that will fade within a few days. Irritation and swelling can also occur but only last a day or two.

I finally had coolsculpting on my tummy and what a surprisingly easy treatment it was. Ashley the nurse was fantastic and she used the new hand piece that is smaller and faster. It was painless except for the 2-minute massage after the treatment but not bad at all. I’m a little sore today but this was easy-breezy and I can’t wait to see my results. I highly recommend it.
