A chemical peel is an effective, customizable way to rejuvenate your skin. With a different peel for every skin type and concern, this treatment can brighten, smooth, address discoloration and reduce signs of aging. Chemical peels offer an effective way to restore more youthful skin.

What is a Facial Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a topical application that uses chemical exfoliants, usually acids. The peel exfoliates the skin by breaking up and removing dull, lifeless layers of cells. A light peel will remove the surface skin to treat milder issues such as uneven texture, dryness, or flakiness. A medium peel will remove more layers to treat lines, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation.

How Does a Chemical Peel Work?

The acids in a chemical peel work by breaking up and eliminating the outermost layers of skin cells. The first layers contain only dead skin cells, while the deeper layers contain healthy new cells. Dr. Aycock and his team will choose a facial peel that matches the level of treatment you need and the amount of downtime you can take. People who want to avoid downtime may prefer a light peel, while those who can tolerate a few days of redness and sensitivity may benefit from a medium peel.

What to Do After a Chemical Peel

Your post-peel instructions will differ depending on the type of peel you have. However, they all have some requirements in common.

  • Protect your skin from the sun, and avoid sun exposure as much as possible
  • Avoid harsh products such as scrubs or products that contain irritants
  • Follow your peel-specific recovery instructions

A light peel may require little to no downtime. You may have some minor sunburn-like redness for a few hours. You can usually start using your regular products within a day or two, but sun protection remains essential. After a medium peel, you can expect redness and sensitivity for several days after treatment. Some peels will result in a few days of peeling and flaking as treated skin is removed.

How Often Should I Have a Chemical Peel?

Your chemical peel schedule will depend on your skin concerns, the type of peel, and your desired results. You can have a light peel as often as every month. Adding one to your skincare routine will keep skin even and glowing with minimal downtime. We recommend medium peels every three to five months to treat deeper skin concerns.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Chemical Peel?

Dr. Aycock and his team offer a facial peel suitable for almost anyone. Peels are safe and effective for sensitive, oily, or dry skin of all ages. Good candidates do not have an active skin condition and have discussed any history of allergic reactions with their team.

I finally had coolsculpting on my tummy and what a surprisingly easy treatment it was. Ashley the nurse was fantastic and she used the new hand piece that is smaller and faster. It was painless except for the 2-minute massage after the treatment but not bad at all. I’m a little sore today but this was easy-breezy and I can’t wait to see my results. I highly recommend it.
